Overview

The Manager of IT Engineering is a strategic and technical leadership role within the IT Operations organization. This role is responsible for evolving and managing the company’s cloud and on-premises infrastructure. This role is essential for adopting modern platform engineering practices, enhancing automation, and ensuring CPI's technology platforms' reliability, scalability, and security.

This leader will oversee a geographically distributed team and will play a key role in shaping the future of CPI’s infrastructure by implementing cloud-native solutions, particularly in AWS, and promoting a culture of platform engineering. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building platform engineering capabilities, improving operational efficiency through automation, and leading high-performing technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of CPI’s platform engineering strategy, strongly emphasizing cloud-native technologies and automation.
  • Oversee the management and optimization of cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS), hybrid environments, and on-premises systems.
  • Champion the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and automated configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, GitLab).
  • Build and lead a high-performing platform engineering team focused on reliability, scalability, and developer enablement.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, security, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and support of applications and services.
  • Establish and monitor SLAs, KPIs, and operational metrics to ensure high availability and performance of infrastructure services.
  • Drive vendor management and strategic partnerships to support infrastructure and platform goals.
  • Manage the IT platform engineering budget, including forecasting, procurement, and cost optimization strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and audit requirements, including PCI and ITGC controls.
  • Foster a continuous improvement, innovation, and customer-centric service delivery culture.

Qualifications

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, EKS).
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Familiarity with hypervisor tools (e.g., VMware and Hyper-V).
  • Experience in regulated environments (e.g., PCI) and working with audit and compliance teams.
  • Preferred AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer).
  • Experience in manufacturing or distribution environments.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD).

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or platform engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven Experience in AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, etc.) and cloud architecture best practices.
  • Proven experience implementing and scaling platform engineering practices in a mid-to-large enterprise.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Experience supporting remote and distributed teams.
  • Strong background in automation, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) a majority of the time.
  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access cabinets and office machines.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Frequently communicates with co-workers on project requirements, must be able to exchange accurate written or verbal communications.
  • Must be able to assess information from computers.
  • Works in indoor office conditions.

 

This role requires the ability to work from home in a virtual environment, where the following is required;
reliable high-speed internet access (hotspot not acceptable)
dedicated distraction-free home work environment
